چکیده
Abstract: Pneumococcal disease is a global public health concern as it affects the young, aged and immunocompromised. The development of pneumococcal vaccines their incorporation in immunization programs has helped to reduce burden disease. However, serotype replacement emergence non-vaccine serotypes well persistence few vaccine underscores need for new effective against such serotypes. In Middle East, places religious mass gatherings are hotspot transmission addition risk factors. Therefore, periodic surveillance circulating region determine effectiveness existing prevention strategies develop improved warranted. Currently, there lack prevalence data Iraq due inadequate region. Thus, this review aims by drawing inferences from recently published literature neighboring countries refine vaccination help introduction country.

Emerging pneumococcal carriage serotypes in a high-risk population receiving universal 7-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine and 23-valent polysaccharide vaccine
Background: In Australia in June 2001, a unique pneumococcal vaccine schedule commenced for Indigenous infants; seven-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (7PCV) given at 2, 4, and 6 months of age and 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (23PPV) at 18 months of age. This study presents carriage serotypes following this schedule. Methods: We conducted cross sectional surveys of pneumoc...

متن کاملPeriodic cycles of pneumococcal serotypes carried by children before and after 7-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine
BACKGROUND Periodic cycles in the serotype-specific incidence of invasive pneumococcal disease have been described but less is known in carriage. METHODS We analyzed serotype carriage prevalence among children 0-6 years old over a 15-year period that included pre-PCV7 data and a decade of PCV7 use. Mixed generalized additive models were used to study periodic cycles and how PCV7 impacted on t...
متن کاملIn-Hospital Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Vaccination Is Associated With Detection of Pneumococcal Vaccine Serotypes in Adults Hospitalized for Community-Acquired Pneumonia
During an etiology study of adults hospitalized for pneumonia, in which urine specimens were examined for serotype-specific pneumococcal antigen detection, we observed that some patients received 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine before urine collection. Some urine samples became positive for specific vaccine pneumococcal serotypes shortly after vaccination, suggesting false-positiv...
